Zoophycos Squaw Bay formation David Thompson

Submitted on 2011-08-21 by David Thompson

Location (approximate): Alpena, Alpena, MI

Strat unit: Squaw Bay formation

Submitter notes: This trace fossil is from the Squaw Bay formation of Alpena and is part of a larger piece. These trace fossils are attributed to a variety of causes from plant or algae fronds to worm feeding activity. The consensus seems to be for the systematic feeding activity of marine worms. This piece is about 18 inches long by 8 inches wide. A twelve inch ruler is for scale.
