Submitter notes: This is a very small Placoblastus obovatus at just 17.3 mm long and 8.8 mm wide. The average is about 3.5 cm but they can be very much larger! When small these can be confused with the Neucleocrinus melonformis from the same formations

Submitter notes: Devonian blastoid, Placoblastus obovatus, from Thunder Bay Limestone of Alpena, Blastoid is 4 cm (1.57 inches) long by 2 cm (.78 inches) wide. The matrix is 8 cm (3 inches) long by 4 cm(1.5 inches) wide. US ten cents for scale. Collected March, 2012.

Hexagonaria percarinatum Amherstburg formation Michael Lask

Submitter notes: These little pieces of Petoskey stone were collected decades ago on the rocky shores of Lake Huron. They are exactly as found, naturally polished and aged. The larger fragment is 36 mm across. Hexagonaria was a genus of reef forming tabulate coral. Tabulate corals are extinct. Enormous reefs formed in what was Michigan during the Devonian period.

Submitter notes: 41 mm across. This snail would have been covered in long spines in life. Only the base of the spines are preserved in this specimen. Occasionally the spines are preserved and revealed with very careful preparation.
