Strat unit: Kona Dolomite formation

Submitter notes: This is an example of the 'Kona Dolomite' which is a stromatolite formed by the Cyanophyte, Collenia undosa. This is Pre-Cambrian from the Kona hills of Marquette County and shows the layered banding of sediments characteristic of Stromatolites. The actual blue-green algae is not present.

Submitter notes: This is a closer view of the previous block. Although the Kona Dolomite started out as dolomite, the pressures exerted through 2.2 Billion years has turned this into a rich marble with quartz inclusions and attractive colors
