Location (approximate): Milan, Washtenaw, MI
Strat unit: Silica formation
Submitter notes: Oddly, we missed posting an image of one of the loveliest brachiopods of the Middle Devonian Silica shale! This was brought to my attention by M. Palescuk while we were collecting at Milan, MI so I am taking this time to post one of the nice robust examples of this species that is characteristic of this site. This Brachiopod is 3.3 cm wide by 2.5 cm by 2. cm thick. A second photo follows with some more examples of this brachiopod.

Submitter notes: This large Brachiopod is encrusted with Aulopora microbuccinata which has grown over the lip of the Brachiopod meaning it was probably dead. The brachiopod is 6.1 cm wide by 4.1 cm long and 4.4 cm deep. This is heavily piritized as are many of the Sylvania fossils.
