Submitter notes: This nearly complete crinoid is disarticulated in parts of the lower stem and the arms have been scraped it appears. Some of the column may still be hidden under the Bryozoan fronds that make up much of the limestone of the matrix which is 7' by 5 1/4' or 18 cm by 13.5 cm. The crown itself is 1 1/2' or 3 cm high and the arms range from 1/2' or 1.2 cm to 1' or 2.5 cm wide.

Submitter notes: These three crinoid caylxes were found in year 2012 and all were found within a 2 foot space of ground. One can go years not seeing these then a special find of all three at once! These Gennaeocrinus variables are all complete, the smallest on the left is .3' or .77 cm, the largest in the middle is .4' or 1.1 cm tall by .4 or 1.0 cm wide. These were all in pristine condition and required no cleaning.

Submitted on 2013-01-20 by David Thompson
Location (approximate): Sylvania, Lucas, OH
Strat unit: Silica formation
Submitter notes: This crinoid was collected in May, 1963 but not prepared or cleaned until now. This is a interesting Arthroacantha carpenteri from unit 13 of the Silica formation in Sylvania, OH. It was collected by Tom Witherspoon, Sr. and shows the lovely 'Sunflower' pattern of the crinoid crown with the arms displayed. In this case, some creature has disrupted or eaten the arm bases at the top of the specimen and the remaining arms are at a lower level then the calyx. The entire plate is 22 cm by 13 cm (8 1/2' by 5 1/4'), the stem is 8 cm or 3 1/4' long, Maximum arm spread is 15 cm or 6' wide.
