Megistocrinus rugosus |
Hungry Hollow formation |
Mike Topor |
|
Submitted on 2008-03-02 by Mike Topor
Location (approximate): Arkona, Lambton, ON
Strat unit: Hungry Hollow formation
Submitter notes: Like the genus Dolatocrinus, Megistocrinus has great plate ornamentation variability which can make classification to the species level difficult. There are probably only 2 or 3 species in the Hungry Hollow member. Loose plates of Megistocrinus are common in the formation and even partial specimens should be collected due to the rarity of whole calyxes. An inflated nearly perfect specimen of M. rugosus that in itself, is rare for the Hungry Hollow member. This specimen is 30mm in diameter and 24mm high. This photo shows the bottom view.

Submitted on 2008-03-02 by Mike Topor
Location (approximate): Arkona, Lambton, ON
Strat unit: Hungry Hollow formation
Submitter notes: The Hungry Hollow member coral zone was a high energy environment fragmenting many crinoids. Crinoid plates and stem fragments are common. Complete calyxes are very rare and partial or whole crowns are exceedingly rare! This cladid crinoid is the most common in the formation, however, all complete calyxes are considered rare. The specimen is 17mm in height and approximately 8.5mm wide.

Location (approximate): Arkona, Lambton, ON
Strat unit: Hungry Hollow formation
Submitter notes: This specimen, like many crinoids in the Hungry Hollow member, needs revision. Deltacrinus is used here until it’s placement can be determined. Deltacrinus (a disparid), and Synbathocrinus (a cladid), are the most abundant crinoids in the formation. This specimen is 14mm wide and 40mm high including the stem and rests on matrix measuring 60 X 31mm.
