Fistulipora sp., Reteporina striata, Sulcoretepora sp., Gilbertsocrinus ohioensis, Tentaculites sp. Silica formation Joseph Koniecki

Submitted on 2012-09-25 by Joseph Koniecki

Location (approximate): Paulding, Paulding, OH

Strat unit: Silica formation

Submitter notes: This piece was obviously collected due to the Gilbertsocrinus crinoid. It was prepped to reveal many more interesting fossils. In addition to the crinoid there are three bryozoans on the piece (Sulcoretepora, Reteporina and a Fistulipora). The Fustilipora has a Hederella on it, which, I believe is no longer considered to be a bryozoan. There is a tentaculid on the slab. I did not collect this piece and would like to thank Travis Vivian for the fine donation to my collection. The slab is 12 cm across.

Taxa present: Fistulipora sp., Reteporina striata, Sulcoretepora sp., Gilbertsocrinus ohioensis, Tentaculites sp.

Arthroacantha carpenteri Silica formation David Thompson

Submitted on 2013-01-20 by David Thompson

Location (approximate): Sylvania, Lucas, OH

Strat unit: Silica formation

Submitter notes: This crinoid was collected in May, 1963 but not prepared or cleaned until now. This is a interesting Arthroacantha carpenteri from unit 13 of the Silica formation in Sylvania, OH. It was collected by Tom Witherspoon, Sr. and shows the lovely 'Sunflower' pattern of the crinoid crown with the arms displayed. In this case, some creature has disrupted or eaten the arm bases at the top of the specimen and the remaining arms are at a lower level then the calyx. The entire plate is 22 cm by 13 cm (8 1/2' by 5 1/4'), the stem is 8 cm or 3 1/4' long, Maximum arm spread is 15 cm or 6' wide.
