Paraspirifer bownockeri, Cornulites Silica formation David Thompson

Submitted on 2011-05-04 by David Thompson

Location (approximate): Sylvania, Lucas, OH

Strat unit: Silica formation

Submitter notes: This large brachiopod was infested by the worm, Cornulites, at an early stage. It also shows the tiny holes of the boring sponge, Clionoides, along what was once the lip of the Brachiopod. What is unusual here is that the worm died before the Brachiopod as the tube is truncated and the brachiopod continues to grow with a healing scar. The Brachiopod is 4.1 cm high by 5.9 cm wide.
