Location (approximate): Arkona, Lambton, ON

Strat unit: Arkona formation

Submitter notes: I found this specimen a couple years back in the Arkona Formation. I have not been able to ID it. It is quite large for a pelecypod from the Arkona. This specimen is 7 cm across. Most Arkona formation pelecypods are a cm or less. Any help in ID'ing this specimen would be appreciated.

Arthroacantha carpenteri Silica formation David Thompson

Submitted on 2013-01-20 by David Thompson

Location (approximate): Sylvania, Lucas, OH

Strat unit: Silica formation

Submitter notes: This crinoid was collected in May, 1963 but not prepared or cleaned until now. This is a interesting Arthroacantha carpenteri from unit 13 of the Silica formation in Sylvania, OH. It was collected by Tom Witherspoon, Sr. and shows the lovely 'Sunflower' pattern of the crinoid crown with the arms displayed. In this case, some creature has disrupted or eaten the arm bases at the top of the specimen and the remaining arms are at a lower level then the calyx. The entire plate is 22 cm by 13 cm (8 1/2' by 5 1/4'), the stem is 8 cm or 3 1/4' long, Maximum arm spread is 15 cm or 6' wide.
