unusual forms of Favosites coral

Submitted by: David Thompson
Taxon: Favosites turbinatus
Submit date: 2008-02-25
Location (approximate): Arkona, Lambton, ON
Stratigraphy: Traverse Formation
Age: Erian (Middle Devonian)
Submitter notes: These two examples show an unusual form of the coral, Favosites turbinatus, in the form of crinoid calyxes! The bases have stem or what appears to be stem attachments then the coralites are forming a cup or calyx that mimics a crinoid. On turning the form over (see next photo) the coral is very clear.
