Phacops (Eldredgeops) milleri Silica formation David Thompson

Submitted on 2007-02-03 by David Thompson

Location (approximate): Sylvania, Lucas, OH

Strat unit: Silica formation

Submitter notes: This dual speciman shows a large adult & smaller trilobite. They are in the same layer & it would be nice to think of 'Mom & Baby' but the association may not be close at all. Clearly they were killed very quickly as they have not really started to enroll as this species often is found. This was self collected in Sylvania but prepared by Scott Vergiels of our 'Friends' who has prepared most of the trilobites I have posted. Sorry I'm old fashioned & these are still 'Phacops' to me.

Submitted on 2007-02-03 by David Thompson

Location (approximate): Paulding, Paulding, OH

Cladopora sp. Hungry Hollow formation Joseph Koniecki

Submitted on 2007-02-04 by Joseph Koniecki

Location (approximate): Arkona, Lambton, ON

Strat unit: Hungry Hollow formation

Submitter notes: Preparation of this specimen was conducted by carefully removing pieces from the matrix and immediately gluing them back together. Once the entire specimen was removed a map was made of its original orientation. The specimen was then placed in a quaternary ammonium solution for cleaning. The solution caused the glue points to dissolve. Then the clean pieces were assembled using the map. The final orientation represents the specimen as it occurred in the matrix and not necessarily in its living position, which may or may not have been the same. The specimen is about 14 cm across at its widest point

Phacops (Eldredgeops) rana crassituberculata Silica formation David Thompson

Submitted on 2007-02-04 by David Thompson

Location (approximate): , Paulding, OH

Strat unit: Silica formation

Submitter notes: This third view of this Phacops continues to show the hypostome (mouth cover) and shows the 'pits' along the lip of this taxon. The exact purpose of these has been debated as locking points for the pygidium when the bug is enrolled or it may be something completely unrelated. Post your ideas!
