Submitter notes: This is how the speciman was found & collected with a nice Nucleocrinus blastoid with several 'horn' corals and a head for a Phacops(?) trilobite right next to the blastoid. This was collected at Hungry Hollow but in the upper Widder beds of the formations. A U.S.of A. 10 cent pc. is for scale.

Submitter notes: This old Brachiopod was encrusted with several types of creatures living on her & they died with her also. There were boring sponges,'Clionoides' on the growth lines of her valves & Aulocystis tabulate coral on her brachial valve. There are some small bryzoan also but these are not identifiable. This brachiopod is from the Norway Point member, also known as the 'boat launch.' Scott Vergiels assisted in this identification.

Submitter notes: This is another view in more detail of the Nucleocrinus blastoid from the Widder beds of Hungry Hollow. This shows the Phacops head to better advantage and the Heliophyllum coral behind them. The actual size of the blastoid is 1 cm. long exactly.

Submitter notes: This is an unusual species with a Platyceras attached. Not too many Dolatocrinus with the snail attached. More often scars are found. This was found in the Alpena Limestone near a bioherm in Alpena. A dime is used for scale.

Submitter notes: Rostroconchs are unusual mollusk with some controversy over where it fits in the evolution of the Mollusca. The Rostroconchs have their two halves connected at the back and are not seperate halves as are Brachiopods or Pelecypods. They have been treated as primitive branches of evolution in Mollusks but are also seen as their own Taxon within the Mollusks. Their strangeness is what attracts me.

Submitter notes: Botryllopora is an encrusting bryozoan. It's favorite host is normally a horn coral. In this case, this large colony is attached to an unidentified matrix. The colony measures 65mm X 35mm.

Submitter notes: This Silica Crinoid, Gilbertsocrinus ohioensis, is beautifully displayed as a whole speciman elsewhere on this site. This example is a side view of the caylx with stem and showing the spine at the bottom in place while a small Platyceras is attached at the top right. Given the large spines on this crinoid, the Platyceras had to get on top some way other then crawling up the sides!

Submitter notes: This is a nice large example of the Devonian Blastoid, Heteroschisma alatum, oral view with fingers for scale. As I was stepping across a ditch, this was directly in front of the toe of my boot, I called my companions to see it before I tried to pick this up as it was large & easily seen. I hoped it was & it did prove to be complete.
