Submitter notes: An oral view of one of the tiny blastoids collected from the Upper Genshaw of Alpena. The specimen is 5.72 mm tall. These tiny blastoids are in weathered black shales and are very difficult to find in the huge Lafarge Quarry in Alpena. This photo was taken under a stereozoom microscope.

This was collected in 1991 from the Martin-Marietta spoil piles in Milan, MI where blastoids are far more rare then, for example, at Paulding, OH.

Submitter notes: This is a not too good example of this rare and unusual blastoid. Eleutherocrinus cassedayi from the Hungry Hollow formation at the 'tileyard' at Thedford, Ontario, Canada. The blastoid is 17 mm long and 9 mm wide.Better examples are shown on this website but these are so rare that all examples should be looked at and any partial collected.It is believed that these blastoids were not attached as adults and able to move independently.

Submitter notes: This is a large and pretty complete crown with stem in matrix. The stem is 2 3/4 inches long (7.5 cm). The whole piece is 8 1/2 inches long (21.5 cm), by 5 inches high (12.5 cm). The calyx is 4.1 cm wide and the longest arm is 3.4 cm long.
